Noble gesture by university staff

The staff at Department of Political Sciences, BR Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad, has extended financial assistance to the family of Laskhmi Narayana, a farmer who had committed suicide at Chebarthi in Jagadevpur mandal.

According to S. Suvarna Devi, lecturer, about 30 employees working in the department have decided to extend help to at least one family of a farmer who committed suicide and therefore selected the family of T. Lakshmi Narayana and Balamani who committed suicide some time back.

Vijaya Lakshmi, Bhanu Prasad and Bhaskar, three children of the couple became orphans and they are being taken care of by their grandmother (mother’s mother) Bharatamma, who is in late sixties.

The University staff extended a financial assistance of Rs. 40,000 to the children in the form of cheque and it was handed over by G. Ravinder, head of the department.

Earlier in the day, a rally was held in the village urging farmers not to commit suicide and anything can be achieved only if we are alive.
