NITI Aayog posts: Kharge takes a dig at BJP

‘Appointments indicate what people can expect from body’

January 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - KALABURAGI:

M. Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, took a dig at the BJP-led NDA government for appointing persons, who had previously reportedly opposed policies such as the Food Security Act, the Public Distribution System and the MGNREGA, as the chairman and advisors of NITI Aayog.

Talking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Kharge said that these appointments were an indication of what the poorer sections of society could expect from NITI Aayog, which had replaced the Planning Commission. “Those who are supportive of the policies of the NDA government have been appointed as the chairman and advisors of NITI Aayog to dilute the pro-poor and pro-people policies initiated by the previous UPA government,” he said.

On the Labour Ministry’s decision to hand over the Rs. 1,600-crore ESIC medical education complex in Kalaburagi to the State government, Mr. Kharge said that he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to reverse the decision and provide the necessary funds to start all the proposed medical education institutions in the complex.

Mr. Kharge said that he had also discussed the issue with Union Fertilizers Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar and Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya.

“It is for the BJP leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to act to save this institution,” he said.
