Graduates of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) will no longer wear conventional black graduation robes and caps during the convocation ceremony and this year they would be wearing the three colours representing the national flag.

“The dress code for this year’s convocation is kurta and pajama. When they come up on the dais to collect their degree certificates, they will be given a saffron colour shawl and the degree certificate would be in green, thus completing the three colours of the national flag. This is the first time we would be trying it,” NIT Director N. V. Ramana Rao explained.

The 15th convocation of the institution is scheduled to be held on Saturday. A total of 1,517 candidates will be awarded their degrees at the convocation. Of them, 53 are Ph D degrees, 624 M Tech and other Post Graduation degrees and 840 B Tech degrees. Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri and Director General, Missile and Strategic Systems, G. Satheesh Reddy will be the chief guest at the convocation.

Topper in BTech in each branch would be awarded Roll of Honour Gold Medal and the overall topper of all branches would get the institute gold medal. This year, Aditya Kumar Somani of Chemical Engineering bagged the institute gold medal.
