Former Lt. General P.G. Kamath, special rapporteur, south zone, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), appreciated the district administration for its excellent work at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) , Bala Sadan, and Sishugruha, home for the differently-abled, across the district.
Mr. Kamath visited old age homes, home for the differently-abled, KGBVs, Asha Jyothi Children’s Home at Pragnapur, and Bala Sadan at Siddipet, among other places, on Thursday and Friday.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Kamath said that there was a need to focus on the needs of special children like those who are visually-impaired, as specially trained faculty is required to teach them.
Diversity stressed
Referring to the KGBVs, he said there should be mix of children from all section instead of from a few sections, as it will create a “feeling of division” at a very tender age which is not desirable. Similarly, he has also suggested introducing English-medium classes in KGBVs so that the students can have a better future.
Mr. Kamath clarified that it was his personal opinion and should not be linked to the NHRC.
Mr. Kamath also stressed the need of creating awareness on the Senior Citizens Act which would provide relief for the old.
Collector D. Ronald Rose and Sarva Sikaha Abhiyan project director Yashmin Basha were present.
