Need for setting up mini ITDA comes into focus

June 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:23 pm IST - KHAMMAM:

With the district administration setting in motion the process of working out modalities for reorganisation of the district, the long-felt need for setting up of a mini Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Khammam has come into focus.

There has been a demand for establishment of either a mini ITDA or a sub-office of the existing Bhadrachalam-based ITDA in Khammam to help effectively serve tribals in Khammam division.

The proposed move to bifurcate Khammam district and create a new district with Kothagudem as its headquarters may bring drastic changes in the demography of Bhadrachalam Agency.

The Bhadrachalam Agency has already witnessed reduction in its Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) area following transfer of seven TSP mandals to Andhra Pradesh as per the State Reorganisation Act in 2014.

Now, the district has a total of 24 TSP mandals under Bhadrachalam-based ITDA jurisdiction.

The latest move to reorganise the district as per the Telangana government’s initiative to create new districts for administrative convenience may necessitate creation of a mini ITDA in Khammam.

Sources said that the matter was expected to come up for discussion among other issues at the general body meeting of the ITDA, Bhadrachalam, likely to be held in a couple of days.
