A major train accident was averted by the track men monitoring a stretch at Tekulasomaram village near Valigonda railway station by detecting the disturbed railway track in the wee hours of Friday. Heavy rains, in the early hours have swept away the soil under the railway track at a culvert, which the track men detected minutes before the Delta Fast Passenger was to pass through the stretch. The engineering staff restored the railway track and services were resumed two-and-a-half hours later. The train was scheduled to reach the place at 5.15 a.m., but the alert track men detected the disturbed track half-an-hour before its arrival and informed the engineering staff. Valigonda area witnessed floods on Friday morning as the mandal recorded a record of 78 mm rainfall. On Oct. 29, 2005, in the same area, as the floods swept away the track, the Delta Fast Passenger derailed killing over 115 people.
