Nalgonda police book case in sale of girl child

April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - NALGONDA:

Minutes after a national television channel aired brokers striking a deal to sell girl child, the Nalgonda police registered a case against unidentified women for their alleged role in child trafficking.

Nalgonda SP Vikramjeet Duggal told The Hindu on Tuesday night that he had also seen the programme where a woman identified as Kamli was boasting about selling a girl child.

“I have directed the Devarakonda police to register a case immediately. They will be booked for child trafficking. We have asked them to trace the persons involved in the shady activities,” he said.

When contacted Nalgonda Collector P. Satyanarayana Reddy said he was verifying the facts. “We will initiate necessary action,” he pointed out.

Official sources said that there are two Sishu Gruhas operating in Devarakonda and Nalgonda. Several tribal parents, unable to bring up the girl child, voluntarily come forward to give them away. In some cases, just-born girl children are dropped in the cradle kept at Sishu Gruhas. Enquiries with officials revealed that some persons may have tried to sell the girl child whose details were not registered in the Sishu Gruhas by the staff. Mr. Satyanarayana Reddy said stern action would be initiated against the culprits. “If the staff were found to be involved in shady deals, action would be initiated against them.” In wake of the incident, Nalgonda administration has now decided every girl child brought to the Centre should registered. “A strict monitoring mechanism will be in place to prevent such incidents,” the Collector said pointing out that the Women development and child welfare department has been asked to counsel the parents and also the pregnant women.
