Telangana Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy called for people-friendly policing and maintenance of law and order.

This, in turn, would lead to peace that would usher in development, he told 486 woman stipendiary cadet constables who graduated from the Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (RBVRR APPA) here on Friday.

Reviewing an impressive turnout and parade, the Home Minister said it was imperative that the constables keep in mind all that they were taught in the Academy and translate it into action when they were posted. “You should be socially conscious and respect human rights,” he told them.

He gave away medals and trophies to the best performers in the training, including Parade Commander R. Keerthi (Ranga Reddy district), Best All Rounder and Best in Outdoor, Nagajyothi (Nalgonda district, Best in Indoor B. Sandhya (Hyderabad) and Best in Firing G. Rajeswari, all trained at the RBVRR APPA.

Others who were trained at the Police Training College, Warangal, and excelled, included Best in Outdoor Ch. Radhika and Best in Indoor K.H. Junnisa Begum, both from Warangal, Best in Firing Y. Renuka (Mahabubnagar) and Best in Outdoor B. Jyothi (Ranga Reddy). K. Manjula from Ranga Reddy was adjusted the Best all-rounder and also stood best in indoor and firing.

Director-General of Police Anurag Sharma said this was the first Passing out Parade after Telangana was born. He recalled Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s words that the safety and security of women and children in the State were of paramount importance.

This was exactly why the need for more women in the police force was felt, he said, adding that they had proposed 33 per cent reservation in the force.

Academy Director M. Malakondaiah presented a report on the ongoing activity in the training institution and said that over a period of nine months, the cadets were taken through a rigorous physical fitness schedule and taught the rudiments of various subjects.
