The crest gates of Nagarjuna Sagar are expected to be lifted in the next 36 hours as the water in the reservoir reached close to Full Reservoir Level (FRL) here on Thursday. The water level in the dam reached 587 feet, against the FRL of 590 feet.
The reservoir currently has 302 tmcft of water, against the total capacity 312 tmcft. Speaking to The Hindu , superintendent engineer of the dam, B.Vijayabhaskar Rao, said the reservoir would reach FRL in the next 36 to 48 hours.
The inflows into the Nagarjuna Sagar stood at 1.88 cusecs till late in the evening. However, it came down to below one lakh cusecs late in the night on Thursday. “It would have attained FRL within 12 hours if the inflows continued at the intensity of two lakh cusecs.”
Meanwhile, the irrigation authorities are releasing 50,000 cusecs of water downstream. The tourist inflow to the largest masonry dam has increased in the past couple of days as the reservoir is brimming with water. The tourist inflow into Nagarjunsagar is also expected to go up in the next few days.
