Shelter less poor people in Ramanagutta colony and other localities here narrated their ordeals to Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao during the latter’s visit to their areas on Tuesday.

They apprised the Minister of their problems due to the alleged inordinate delay in the allotment of house sites and construction of houses under the government schemes.

The Minister expressed his dissatisfaction over the tardy implementation of the weaker section housing programmes. The Minister took the Housing Department officials concerned to task for the “lacklustre functioning” of that particular wing. “What is the use of maintaining a department exclusively for housing when it has failed to construct at least 900 houses in the last nine years,” he questioned.

The Minister reviewed the status of pensions, house sites and other issues with the officials on the spot. Mr Rao inspected the Lakkaram tank in the town and instructed the officials to implement an action plan for restoring the tank to its original shape and reviving its past glory.
