Campaign aimed at creating awareness on protection of girl children and women

A mega cultural campaign aimed at creating awareness on protection of girl children and ensuring women their rightful place in the society will be organised on Thursday as part of the ongoing Bathukamma festivities.

The campaign will be organised under the aegis of Telangana Praja Samskruthika Kendram (TPSK). Announcing this at a press conference held here on Wednesday, TPSK district convener B. Ramesh said a ‘Kala Jatha’ headed by noted educationist B. Sujatha, who did her Ph.D. on Bathukamma festival, will reach the town from Nalgonda district on Thursday morning.

The cultural procession will highlight the need for a collective effort to eradicate social maladies like gender bias, female foeticide, dowry and others.

An exhibition of photographs by famous photographer Bharat Bhushan on the theme of Bathukamma will be organised at the Pavilion Grounds the same day.

A seminar will be held at the same venue later in the day to deliberate on the need to build broad-based social movements for safeguarding the rights of girl children and women, the essence of Bathukamma festival.
