Counselling for admission to MBBS and BDS courses for the academic year 2014-15 began at five online centres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Saturday. Things went on smoothly under the supervision of NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) Vice-Chancellor T. Ravi Raju and Registrar S. Babulal. Tight security was arranged by police to prevent any untoward incident.
Counselling was held for open category candidates with ranks from 1 to 1,500 on Saturday, and it will be followed by admitting candidates with ranks from 1,501 to 4,500 and 4,501 to 8,500 on August 31 and September 1 respectively. Counselling for SC, ST and BC candidates will be held in the subsequent three days (September 2, 3 and 4).
Dr. Ravi Raju said the counselling went on smoothly at all the five centres. The seat matrix was worked out jointly by officials from both States to ensure that there was no scope for misgivings.
Meanwhile, a large number of students owing allegiance to the Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU) staged a protest outside the NTRUHS administrative building in Vijayawada, demanding that the 15 per cent NRI quota in medical admissions be scrapped.
They alleged that private colleges were selling seats for Rs. 1 crore to Rs 1.50 crore each.
