In an effort to arrest problems for those travelling by autos and also to track the movement of anti-social elements, the police department in the district has recently started pasting stickers on each auto and allocating a number to each vehicle. There are about 25,000 autos in the district. The police have collected the details of each auto driver, his address, photo and phone number at the mandal level and details have been recorded at the local police stations. Each auto driver has been allotted a number like ‘SRD (T) 1’ against which the details of the driver would be recorded. Police feel that it will be easy for passengers to remember the number in this format even when they are in a hurry. The number is being displayed on the back of the auto, right on top, so that it is easily visible.

A sticker is also pasted at the back of the auto driver’s seat so that the passenger can see it. They can also check whether the auto-driver is in drunken condition, is behaving properly and driving without negligence.

Passengers having any suspicion regarding the auto driver can call 100 or 9440901835 or 08455-276441 and lodge their complaint. “Recently, we received a call from a college girl who complained that the auto was being driven too fast and the music being played was too loud. She sent the photo on Whatsapp through which we traced the auto and removed the sound box,” said G. Lingeswara Rao, Circle Inspector (Traffic).
