On the basis of colleges, how do you choose between mechanical or computer science engineering?

If the college is in the top 20 ranked institutes in the State, then the wise choice would be the mechanical course, whereas computer science or IT can be chosen for all colleges. Mechanical engineers from tier-2 and tier-3 colleges may find it difficult getting jobs.

After engineering if one were to pursue MBA, what are the specialisations in demand?

Presently, consulting comes first, followed by investment banking.

Which one to choose – architecture or civil engineering?

While civil engineering is structured, architecture is more creative. In India, the job prospects for architecture students are not bright and there is more demand for them in countries like the U.S.

For a student who secured a rank around 50,000 in EAMCET, is it better to go for long-term preparation or join engineering in some college?

The student’s academic performance in Intermediate or past examinations needs to be taken into consideration. If the student is average in studies, there is no point in writing EAMCET again wasting another year. Just choose the best college from the allotted ones and join a good course.

Is it advisable for girls to enrol for the mechanical engineering course?

There is no gender discrimination when it comes to courses, and even girls can shine as mechanical engineers. A few decades back, a mechanical engineering class would not have a single girl student, whereas now they constitute almost 50 per cent of the strength.

However, girls should opt for this course keeping in mind the job requirements and balancing their family life in their 30s or 40s.

Computer sciences is considered more suitable because there is an option to work from home too.
