Maoists went on the rampage setting ablaze four tipper lorries, a road roller and an excavator at Tekulagudem in Wajedu mandal close to the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
The incident comes close on the heels of an unsuccessful attempt by Maoists to blast a cell phone tower at Satyanarayanapuram in Charla mandal over a week ago.
Sources said about 20 Maoists, including two women cadres, set on fire vehicles engaged in construction of a road between Tekulagudem in the mandal and Tallagudem of Chhattisgarh shortly after midnight.
The tipper lorries were damaged and the road roller was gutted in the incident.
The rebels targeted the road construction equipment in the backdrop of hectic efforts by the departments concerned to expeditiously complete the road work with police protection for improving road connectivity between Telangana and Chhattisgarh along NH-163.
Exchange of fire in Bijapaur?In a related development, a gunfight reportedly broke out between the police and the naxalites in the forest area between Annaram of Wajedu mandal and Marimalla of the strife-torn Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday morning.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties.
Police launched a massive combing operation along the porous inter-state border in the aftermath of the incident.
