Maoists open fire at Salwa Judum activists

A couple with suspected links with Salwa Judum, the erstwhile anti-Maoist militia, of Konta in Chhattisgarh State, were shot at and seriously injured by Maoists near Konta in Sukma district of the neighbouring State on Sunday night.

They were rushed to the Government area hospital in Bhadrachalam in Khammam district late in the night.

The injured were identified as Podium Chukkalu, a former elected representative of local body, and his wife Podium Payaki.

The condition of Chukkalu, who sustained two bullet injuries, was stated to be critical.
