Maoists make their presence felt in Khammam

August 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 12:52 pm IST - KHAMMAM:

Maoists reportedly dug up trenches on the Charla-Pusuguppa road in Charla mandal of Bhadrachalam division in the wee hours of Sunday coinciding with the “Martyrs week” being observed by the CPI (Maoist) outfit in agency areas.

The rebels have placed boulders after digging up a small portion of the road in the small hours of the day, sources said.

Vehicular traffic on the road connecting the remote Pusuguppa village with the mandal headquarters was disrupted for several hours following the incident.

Several tractors bound for santha, the weekly market, in Charla were stranded on the road for hours, the sources added.

In a separate incident, suspected Maoists reportedly felled trees on the road leading to Tippapuram in the same mandal on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
