Bolla Lakshman (34) of Chandur village under Varni police station limits hacked to death his wife Roja alias Swapna (30), and killed himself later by hanging to the ceiling at their residence after midnight last on Monday night.
He suspected her of having an illicit relationship.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Ram Kumar, Lakshman belonged to a fishermen community and had gone to Dubai a few years ago and returned to his village recently.
Since then the couple were quarrelling often. Last evening also, they quarrelled with each other over a phone call.
Thereafter, Lakshman went out, but came back after sometime. He was irritated by seeing Swapna talking over the cell phone and hiding it on his arrival. Again they quarrelled.
After dinner when Swapna was in sound sleep, he hit her head with an axe killing her on the spot.
Immediately, he committed suicide by hanging himself.
Lakshman was scheduled to go to Dubai on Wednesday. The couple is survived by two sons Nikhil (5) and Akhil (3). Circle Inspector Damodar Reddy rushed to the spot and is investigating the case, said Mr. Ram Kumar.
