Despite the repeated assurance by the State Government that the Land Acquisition Act- 2013 would be implemented for those who want it, the land oustees are continuing their agitations. There was no let off in their agitations and irrespective of their age and differences, all of them are participating in relay fasts being held in villages.

“For many of them, the day starts very early. After preparing food for the family members, women come to the venue where the agitations are being held. They sit till evening, promising to continue their protest the next day,” says G. Jayaraj, who is coordinating the protest programmes on a day to day basis.

Following the footsteps of Telangana agitation, the residents of Vemulaghat held Vanta Vaarpu programme in the village on Saturday and had dinner on the main road. At some villages, women arranged village deities in the form of Batukamma and offered prayers urging the Goddesses to protect them from the government as well as from the submergence under Mallannasagar reservoir.

In a related development, CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram continued his padayatra on the second day at Vemulaghat and Pallepahad. He visited the tanks and lakes that are located outside the village and inquired about the irrigation works being taken up .
