A huge exercise in anti-malarial spray will begin next week in Adilabad in view of the current epidemic season though malaria is under control so far. Only 220 positive cases of malaria have been detected in the district which is about the normal incidence, according to District Malaria Officer Alham Ravi.
“The Indo-Russian residual spray will be taken up in all houses in the 869 Gram Panchayats in the district next week. This will effectively check any outbreak of malaria,” Dr. Ravi said.
The incidence of malaria or diarrhoea even in tribal areas is under check going by the arrival of patients at the Community hospital, Utnoor. Only nine cases of fever and six of diarrhoea were reported so far this month, at the hospital.
The condition outside Utnoor hospital, however, leaves much to be desired. The garbage collected by the Gram Panchayat sanitation staff is being dumped by the side of the road close to the hospital, thereby posing a health hazard to patients and passersby.
