Major fire at mattresses unit in Medak district

Major fire broke out in mattresses manufacturing unit at Kallakal in Toopran mandal of Medak district in the wee hours of Monday. The manufactured mattresses ready for marketing and machinery was completely gutted and reduced to ashes. The loss was estimated to be in few crores of rupees. Fire engines were pressed into service to control fire.

According to sources, the fire engulfed the manufacturing unit and spread in no time. According to Jahangir Khan, proprietor of the firm, they had started manufacturing mattresses from April and the unit was yet to be insured. “We were planning to get the insurance for the plant done today,” he said and suspected that some unidentified persons may have resorted to mischief.

Deputy Inspector of Factories Y. Gangadhar Reddy said that they are assessing the situation and details will be revealed by Monday evening.
