Love reigns: rape victim marries friend

June 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - GUNTUR:

A day after the brutal assault by a gang, which included an Army man, the girl from Kolluru got married to her friend Munnangi Rajesh, 25. Rajesh married the girl he loved at a church here on Sunday evening. The wedding was attended by Tenali MLA Alapati Rajendra Prasad and other local leaders.

Police, who counselled the couple, said they were determined to get married and start a new life. Earlier in the day, the girl had told a group of community elders that her parents were no more, and that she had been eking out a livelihood by working in a photostat shop. The elders counselled Rajesh, too, and convinced him to marry his friend. “I had no doubt that she is the right choice for me. I love the girl so much that we planned to go to Hyderabad, get married and settle there,’’ Rajesh said.

I had no doubt that she is the right choice for me. If there was someone who should be blamed for the incident, it was me.

Munnangi Rajesh,

Victim’s friend
