Three persons including a couple were killed in two separate incidents of lightning striking them in the district on Tuesday.

Jala Mallesh, 26, and his wife Vijaya, 24, both cotton farmers, died almost immediately after being struck by lightning at Nelapatla village in Kusumanchi mandal in the afternoon.

They met with a tragic end while standing under a giant tree at a cotton field after heavy rain forced them to discontinue the pesticide spraying operation.

The couple is survived by a 13-month-old baby.

In another incident, Badavath Jagmal, 37, a tenant farmer, was killed by a lightning strike in an agricultural field at Ramana Thanda under Edullacheruvu Gram Panchayat in Tirumalayapalem mandal.
