Armoor records the highest rainfall of 395.4 mm resulting in inundation of low-lying areas

Life in Armoor town and its surrounding areas has gone awry with rain wreaking havoc since Friday night. In a first, Armoor recorded the highest rainfall of 395.4 mm resulting in inundation of low-lying areas and damage to roads.

Standing crops such as paddy, maize and soyabean were badly damaged. According to unofficial sources, paddy in about 5,000 acres, maize in 10,000 acres and soyabean in 40,000 acres were destroyed and if the rain continues for a day or two, turmeric would also be badly affected.

Kindi Bazar waterlogged

“Water from Mallareddy and Battapur tanks has entered residential localities. Kindi Bazar remains waterlogged. We have never experienced such a heavy rain and it doesn’t seem to stop threatening the very existence of slums,” says K. Narsimha Chary, a local resident.

Highest average rainfall

Meanwhile, the district received the highest average rainfall of 130.5 cm on a single day in the current monsoon. It is followed by Armoor Madnur which recorded 201.8 mm rain; Renjal- 201.4 mm; Bodhan-198 mm; Nandipet- 190; and Jakranpally- 180.6 mm. At least 23 mandals received rain of over 100 mm while the district headquarters town received 97.2 mm. Sirikonda mandal received the least rainfall of 48.4 mm on Saturday.
