‘Laxity in suicide compensation’

May 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - WAGHAPUR (ADILABAD DIST.):

The Human Rights Forum (HRF) on Saturday accused the State Government of laxity in handing over compensation to kin of farmers who have committed suicide due to distress in agriculture sector. The organisation also accused the government of callousness in providing relief for the common man from drought. A team of office-bearers of the HRF and Rythu Swarajya Vedika visited some villages to interact with families of the farmers who committed suicide.

Led by general secretary V.S. Krishna, the team spoke with newsmen at Waghapur village after calling on the kin of farmer, Peruma Isthari, who committed suicide on May 24. Mr. Krishna said the government is guilty of violating its own order, GO 194, when it came to verification of suicides by farmers.
