Land distribution: mandals under HMDA limits likely to be omitted

July 18, 2014 11:38 pm | Updated September 29, 2016 12:45 pm IST - SANGAREDDY:

The district administration has identified one village in each mandal in Medak district where land would be distributed to SC families. The latest guidelines issued on Thursday have reportedly suggested omission of mandals that fall under Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits. With this, the number of mandals where land distribution would be taken up comes down to 34 from the earlier 44. However, there is no official confirmation on this.

The authorities, who conducted a survey in 44 mandals, have identified 756 landless poor among the SCs. While 669 families posses less than half an acre land, 947 families have less than an acre. Around 1,009 families have below two acres, 560 families below three acres and 472 families above three acres.

The latest guidelines have asked the administration to conduct resurvey by roping in Village Social Auditors (VSA) from neighbouring villages to avoid errors. The VSA, Village Revenue Officer and panchayat secretary would be given necessary training from July 21 to 24 followed by training to mandal-level officers. The survey would be conducted between July 29 and August 10, verification from August 11 to 13 and data uploading from August 14 to 20. The land distribution may commence by the end of August or the first week of September.

An official, on condition of anonymity, said that land distribution may not begin from the scheduled date as purchasing land was not an easy task. Many were unwilling to sell their land unless they get the market price. The government has to take a call on this, he added.
