The Lambada tribe is forming Lambada Tribe Rakshana Dalams or protection squads at village level to protect people of the tribe in Adilabad and neighbouring districts and teachers from the plains tribe propose to float a Lambada Tribal Teachers Union to protect their interests.

National working president of All India Banjara Seva Sangh Amar Singh Tilawat told The Hindu that the steps were necessary as the State government failed to protect Lambada teachers and others from physical attacks by Adivasis. The new organisations will be floated only to take care of the present issue in which Lambadas are being victimised, he added. Mr. Tilawat said a meeting of Lambada tribe employees and others functioning under banners of various organisations will meet at Utnoor on December 3.

The meeting will chalk a future course of action in view of the present circumstances. The Banjara leader also urged Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao to hold meetings separately with Adivasis and Lambada representatives. “After arriving at some solution, he can announce the decision to both parties,” he added.
