The recently launched Lake police have succeeded in instilling confidence among visitors to the picturesque Lower Manair Dam Reservoir and other recreational locations in the vicinity.
There has been a steady increase in the number of women and families visiting these tourist and recreational spots thanks to the round-the-clock patrolling by the Lake police. The visitors no longer fear harassment by hooligans or troublemakers known to create a nuisance after consuming liquor in the open.
The Lake police, an initiative of the Commissioner of Police V. B. Kamalasan Reddy, which was launched on October 10, has nabbed 48 persons for consuming liquor in the open at the LMD and its shores and registered 15 cases.

The Lake police are not only using their vehicles but also drones to keep a watch on the popular tourist sites. The aerial monitoring has helped the police curb not only open consumption of liquor at these recreational spots but also nab people who were moving in the area under suspicious circumstances. Lake police sub-inspector V. Ravi told The Hindu that they had even secured a breath analyzer to check drunken driving on the reservoir and its shores. He said that they were giving utmost priority to the safety and security of visitors to the LMD and the parks.
The police had counselled the traders selling the fruits, snacks, ice-creams and other products on the reservoir to inform the police if any person was creating trouble or causing nuisance. He said that they were allowing vehicles on the reservoir and ensuring that there was no rash driving.
An elderly person Srinivas Rao, who visited the LMD said, they were feeling comfortable for the first time on the LMD reservoir after the introduction of Lake police.
