If the State government goes ahead with its plan creating new districts, two new districts will be carved from the Warangal district.

Bhupalpalli, the busy and fast-growing coal town, would become a separate district and famous Jangaon that was centre of Telangana armed struggle would become headquarters of two new districts.

The proposal evoked mixed response from political parties while majority of people were in favour hoping that it would foster rapid growth all over. While welcoming the proposals, BJP senior leader N Venugopal Reddy said the State government should not go by political pressure in creating new districts to suit the needs of certain leaders. Instead, it should go by rational factors such as population, distance from headquarters and resources to sustain as new district. “The original plan of the government was to create new districts after delimitation of Assembly constituencies. It should wait for that to happen,” he said.

The BJP leader sought to know the rationale behind merging Dornakal with Warangal while it is very near to Khammam district. Similarly, Parkal should be in Warangal rather in Bhupalpalli.

“The government should convene a meeting and take views of all parties into consideration,” Mr Venugopal Reddy said.

TDP district president Gandra Satyanarayana Rao said they had no objection but it should be done in a scientific manner rather than suitng the needs of TRS party leaders. “It is said the decision will help create 34 new Assembly constituencies. The contiguous areas should be merged rather than merging an area that is far off from the new place,” he said.

Meanwhile, officials maintained silence as the actual exercise was yet to begin on the issue. TRS district president T Ravinder Rao hailed the decision stating that it create new growth centres. “The district headquarters and other revenue divisions will witness faster growth now,” he said.
