The prices of the popular freshwater fish species Korra Meenu have started shooting up ahead of the ensuing Mrigasira Karthi, the day when the demand for the particular variety of fish will increase manifold.
Fish consumption will go up during Mrigasira Karthi every year due to the traditional belief that eating fish during this season, which precede the onset of monsoon, will help cure certain breathing disorders.
In demandFish sellers have already increased the prices of Korra Meenu fish at certain places in the town by cashing in on the spurt in demand for that fish variety. The price of Korra Meenu fish, which ranged between Rs.300 to Rs.350 per kg until now, has shot up to Rs. 400 and above at several fish stalls in the town.
