Kondapochamma work: villagers told not to sow crops

January 23, 2018 12:46 am | Updated 12:46 am IST - SIDDIPET

Officials on Sunday made a public announcement urging villagers not to sow any crops in their lands as irrigation works would begin .

The public announcement was made in both Thanedarpally and Bahilampur villages, which are part of the three villages including Mamidyala expected to get submerged in the proposed Kondapochamma reservoir.

According to villages the tom-tomming was made as per the directions of village revenue officer (VRO), who said that the mandal revenue officer had directed them to do so. However, the MRO was not available for comment.

The farmers of these villages had already sold their lands to the government for construction of the reservoir after participating in a meeting held with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

In the recent past the villagers held protests alleging that their crops were lost due to the ground work on the reservoir. To avoid any similar protest in future the officials made this announcement.

Some of the villagers said that they were informed that power supply to farming would be disconnected shortly.
