KITS acquires 100-tonne universal testing machine

The Department of Civil Engineering of Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science Warangal (KITS) has procured 100 tonner

capacity universal testing machine and core cutter.

College secretary Capt. V. Lakshmi Kantha Rao has inaugurated newly acquired UTM bought at a cost of Rs.12 lakh sponsored by AICTE, New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that with the existing 40 T capacity UTM it is possible to test the tensile strength of steel specimens only up to 25mm diameter. On adding 100 T capacity to the existing 40 T UTM, it would be possible to test the steel specimens up to 70 mm diameter. Treasurer P. Narayana Reddy said that the Concrete Core Cutter could be used for collecting core specimens of cement concrete roads. Quality of CC roads, BT Roads and soil roads could be examined from the core specimens collected from the core cutter. The KITS has been offering consultancy services to various government departments like R&B, Panchayath Raj, Irrigation Singareni Colleries, Warangal Municipal Corporations, KUDA and several other Non Government agencies. Principal Prof K Ashoka Reddy said it was a big relief to engineers, contractors, architects and designers working in Telangana State as the testing facilities were available at their doorsteps.

Department head S.G. Narayana Reddy wanted the students to make use of the facilities provided by the institute and equip themselves with the latest skills.

The institute has been offering consultancy services to various government departments
