KCR wants TS instead of TG for vehicle registration

June 03, 2014 11:20 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:05 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Allotment of registration numbers to newly registered vehicles has been suspended as there is some confusion over the alpha-numeric code the vehicles should get in Telangana State.

There is some stalemate over the registration letters of the newly registered numbers. Hitherto, the Centre had cleared a proposal to allot the letters TG to Telangana State, but now the Transport Department has written to the Centre asking for allotment of code TS, after the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s suggestion. It is believed that numerological reasons made the CM suggest this change.

However, doubts over whether the old vehicles would have to switch over to new system still remain. A decision on this is expected in a day or two. If all the vehicles are to have the new numbers, the owners would have to spend a minimum of Rs. 400 to get the new plates.

Meanwhile, the department has launched a new website with URL www.telangana.transport.
