Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to urge the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce incentives for Telangana State to accelerate its growth.
Mr. Rao, who will be on his maiden tour of New Delhi on June 6 and 7 reportedly asked the officials to prepare detailed subject-wise report on various developmental and infrastructural projects. He may utilise the opportunity to invite the Prime Minister for an official formation day celebrations at a later date.
Accordingly, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma on Wednesday held a high-level meeting with heads of departments in the Secretariat after the SLBC meeting to finalise the issues that would be raised by the Chief Minister with the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers.
Official sources told The Hindu that top on the priority of Mr. Rao’s Delhi agenda was seeking national project status for Pranahita-Chevella and Palamur lift irrigation scheme. “Like the special incentives given for residuary Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister is keen that similar sops should also be announced for Telangana State to encourage entrepreneurs to set up industries here,” a senior official remarked.
It was pointed out that Mr. Rao was determined to leverage maximum central assistance for the projects that had been incorporated in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014 for the State of Telangana. This includes pitching hard to secure funds for establishment of Tribal and Horticultural Universities in the new State.
Separate project reports are being prepared by the respective departments on setting up of Railway Coach Factory and steel factory and sanction of new railway lines. The Chief Minister, official sources said, would also draw the attention of the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers to provide additional power supply for Telangana and allocate coal supply for thermal generating units.
