For the first time in 30 years, there were no protests at sub-stations, and no lathicharge at seed and festilizer shops, says K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

People of Warangal have always helped the TRS in times of crisis and they should do so once again by ensuring the victory of party in this byelection, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao here on Tuesday.

There were many doubts over the movement and the party but I asked people to stone me to death if I give up my demand for separate Telangana. “I have the same commitment and I reiterate the same statement now. I want all of you to strengthen my hands by electing Pasunuri Dayakar,” he appealed to people who came in large numbers at the Arts College Grounds in Hanamkonda.

Mr. Rao listed the achievements and welfare programmes taken up by the 16-month TRS government. The flagships programmes such as Water Grid, Mission Kakatiya, Kalyana Laxmi, and Shadi Mubarak, enhanced pensions were some of them. Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu himself once said that one cannot expect wonders from a government that is only of 16 months, and the same applies here in Telangana as well. BJP leaders like G. Kishan Reddy should know this fact, he said.

Giving strong retort to the Opposition leaders, Mr. Rao said S. Jaipal Reddy, K. Jana Reddy, G Kishan Reddy and many of them never resigned from their positions when people wanted them to do so supporting separate Telangana movement. “They have all enjoyed power while TRS MLAs resigned and went back to people for their support. Both the Congress and TDP ruled this State for 58 years and their wrong doings cannot be undone within a year,” he said.

Referring to the criticism on not doing anything for farmers, Mr. Rao said the State government procured maize and paddy by opening many centres, and there are no complaints. With regard to cotton, the subject lies with the Centre which has failed to allocate budget and open more procurement centres.

“For the farmers, we ensure uninterrupted power supply, availability of sufficient seed and fertilizer. For the first time in 30 years, there were no protests at sub-stations, no lathicharge at seed and festilizer shops,” Mr. Rao reminded. The Chief Minister spoke for thirty minutes in which he highlighted the government’s initiatives at the beginning, and giving retort to the Opposition criticism in the later part. There was some commotion during his speech when a group of MRPS activists raised slogans. Many Cabinet Ministers and party leaders were present on the occasion.
