Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday set the ball rolling on his ambitious programme of distributing a whopping 1.25 lakh pattas to the poor across the State, said to be a never-before welfare initiative since Independence.
At a programme in Malkajgiri Constituency, he gave pattas to over a dozen poor couples. Explaining that out of the 3.36 lakh applications received under GO. 58, 1.25 lakh pattas for an extent of 1,600 acres were recommended and prepared for distribution. The approximate market value is Rs. 9,487 crore. He appreciated the efforts of the employees in Revenue Department in preparing 1.25 lakh pattas within a fortnight.
Mr. Rao hastened to add that the remaining applicants, those for whom pattas were not recommended need not be disappointed and that they would get it in a matter of months. “Some of the land is under legal dispute and some belongs to agencies like the Wakf Board and Endowments Department. We need to clear the legal hurdles, apart from adequately compensating the agencies concerned. And this will take some time,” he told people.
“I am confident of keeping up all my promises. No one needs to worry,” he said and referring to the scheme wherein he had assured 2 BHK flats, he explained that the details were being worked out. “We need to build about seven to 9 lakh units and you do not need to worry about margin money or bank loans. It will be 100 per cent under grant. I promise to take up construction of about 50,000 to 1 lakh units a year and very soon Hyderabad will not have any huts,” he said.
The impressively-organised programme presided over by Malkajgiri MLA Chintala Kanaka Reddy and among others present were MP C. Malla Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, and Transport Minister.
