Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has sought Centre’s cooperation and financial assistance for the State government’s prestigious project ‘Mission Kakatiya’, taken up for restoration of minor irrigation tanks including the revival of chain-link tank system.
Mr. Rao called on the Union Water Resources Minister in Parliament on Monday, the third day of his visit to Delhi, and requested her to come for the inauguration of the tanks’ restoration project later this month.
National statusFurther, he urged Ms. Bharati to accord national project status to Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation project and immediate release of Rs. 100 crore to the State under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP).
The Chief Minister also sought the Centre’s assistance for completion of Devadula project and brought the issue of dispute in sharing Krishna waters highlighting the fact that injustice was being done to Telangana for long.
Several MPs of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Advisor to State Government on Irrigation R. Vidyasagar Rao accompanied the Chief Minister during his meeting with the Union Minister.
Responding to Mr. Rao’s requests Ms. Bharati is understood to have assured him to look into the issues positively. Assuring all cooperation from the Centre to the newly-formed Telangana State, the Union Minister said a decision on Pranahita-Chevella project would be taken after holding a meeting with the central and State officials soon.
Speaking to newspersons later, Ms. Bharati stated that Telangana was progressing well and the Centre would cooperate in all its initiatives aimed at development of the State.
Meanwhile, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao returned to the city on Monday night after the Delhi visit.
In Delhi, he participated in a meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on setting up a new body replacing the Planning Commission.
