KCR planning to meet Modi

Chief Minister to present his road map for Telangana’s development, seek Centre’s aid

June 03, 2014 11:22 pm | Updated 11:22 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao plans to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other Union Ministers to seek their help for development of the new State.

Mr. Rao is likely to present his road map for the development of Telangana and seek Centre’s assistance for priority sectors such as irrigation, agriculture and industries. Mr. Rao, who would lead a team of Ministers, will also invite Mr. Modi to visit Telangana as early as possible. The TRS leadership also indicated that the party would not continue its confrontational stand against the BJP. “Our party is keen on having cordial relations with the Centre,” party sources said.

The party’s MP from Mahabubnagar A.P. Jitender Reddy said the TRS would act as a friendly party of the NDA and noted that they were not an opposition party. “We will lobby for the development of Telangana on a par with TDP (for Andhra Pradesh) using my previous connections in BJP,” Mr. Jitender Reddy, who was with BJP in the past, said.

Government officials have sought an appointment of the Prime Minister on June 6 or 7. “We will seek financial assistance for various ongoing and proposed welfare and developmental programmes in Telangana,” a senior TRS leader said.

The Chief Minister’s proposed visit to Delhi assumes significance as it comes days before the maiden Assembly session of the new State, which is likely to commence from June 9. He is likely to explain the priorities of his government to the Prime Minister.
