Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who reached Delhi on Friday night on a three-day visit to the national capital, is likely to meet a few Union Ministers after the Chief Ministers’ meeting with the Prime Minister scheduled on Sunday.
Mr. Rao is also planning to go to Parliament on Monday, where he could meet with Ministers and others in the Central Hall.
Sources stated that the Chief Minister would press for sectoral allocation of funds to States by the Centre instead of programme-specific allotment so that the States will have flexibility in spending such funds in related fields, during the Chief Ministers’ meeting. Mr. Rao will also present a vision document for Telangana State for the next 10 years at the meeting.
Further, Mr. Rao is expected to bring to the Prime Minister’s notice the violation of the Reorganisation Act by Andhra Pradesh, the delay in allocation of All India Service (AIS) cadre and explain the initiatives of the State government to spur economic growth such as new industrial policy. Mr. Rao would also seek the Centre’s assistance for the State government’s flagship programmes of drinking water grid and restoration of minor irrigation tanks, the sources said.
Party MPs A.P. Jitender Reddy and B. Narsaiah Goud said that the Chief Minister was expected to take up the issues concerning Telangana with the Prime Minister after the scheduled meeting organised to discuss about a new system to replace the Planning Commission.
“The Chief Ministers’ meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to meet the Prime Minister separately for a few minutes after that,” the MPs said adding that there were no differences between Telangana and the Union government and there was proper coordination and cooperation between the two.
Mr. Rao was confined to his residence, the quarters allotted to him when he was an MP, with only leaders of Telangana, including party MPs and special representatives of the State government in Delhi, meeting him informally on Saturday. Sources close to the Chief Minister said they had not taken appointment of any Union Minister for Saturday with an intention of not disturbing them on a holiday when Parliament is in session.
The Chief Minister is likely to take up issues such as bifurcation of the High Court, early completion of pending railway projects, special package, dispute over sharing of power and water with AP and incentives to industries with Union Ministers concerned.
