Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao went out of the way to connect with farmers as well as the common man, during his visit to the district on Sunday. to launch Mission Kakatiya works.
Top on his agenda for the day on arriving by a chopper in Nalgonda, was attending the marriage of the son of an ordinary farmer Byrra Ram Reddy from Mushrampally village. Mr. Reddy has earned the sobriquet of ‘Borla’ Ram Reddy after he unsuccessfully drilled 54 borewells in his agriculture land for water.
The Chief Minister chose to have lunch with over a dozen farmers. Later, he flew to Nakrekal and then drove to Rasamudram tank located at the historical Chandupatla village. He arrived by bullock cart from Rasamudram bund to launch the Mission Kakatiya works. It was a colourful sight as women carrying Bathukamma, Bonalu and a troupe playing Kolatam, Yakshaganam artistes and others preceded him.
When he was about to start his speech, a bearded man began to make noise prompting Mr. Rao to ask him to climb on to the dais. When security personnel tried to stop him, Mr. Rao said: “ Ayana naa doste, raaniyandi ” (He is my friend, allow him on to the dais). He had a brief chat with him. When the Chief Minister was talking about bringing past glory to Rasamudram tank, an elderly woman shouted from another corner asking him to create a feeder channel from AMRP Canal to the tank, which was just 5 km away from Chandupatla, to fill the village tank. He appreciated the woman, saying two such persons are enough to represent the village. Promising to connect the tank with AMRP Canal, Mr. Rao invited the woman on to the dais. Throughout his speech, the Chief Minister maintained humour and Nalgonda slang. He signed off in his own style saying that the Met office had forecast thunder showers and it was time for him to rush back. Enhancing Rs. 55 lakh sanctioned to Rasamudram tank to Rs. 2 crore, Mr. Rao said that since the restoration of Kakatiya period tank would help the neighbouring villages, he would direct the irrigation authorities to connect the tank with AMRP Canal.
Promises to develop Chandupatla
Mr. Rao promised to develop the historical Chandupatla village into a heritage tourism spot.
Addressing the gathering after launching Mission Kakatiya works at Rasamudram tank, Mr. Rao said that Kakatiya queen Rani Rudrama Devi had fought her last war here, where she died in the battlefield while fighting King Ambadeva.
Mr. Rao said that an inscription was found by the historians at Chandupatla which also had confirmed the death date of Rudrama Devi. Interacting with the representatives of Vivekananda Yuvajana Mandali from Chandupatla, which played a key role in restoring the inscription, the Chief Minister promised that he would direct the officials to purchase some land for the development of the village. He assured them that funds would also be allocated for erecting a massive bronze statue of the warrior queen Rudrama Devi and a Kakatiya Kala Thoranam at the entrance of the village.
