Kakatiya University to re-open hostels

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - WARANGAL:

The authorities of Kakatiya University have decided to open hostels and start classes soon.

The decision was taken after in-charge Registrar Prof. M.V. Ranga Rao held talks with leaders of student unions here on Friday.

It may be recalled that the officials cancelled classes, closed hostels and messes following rampaging by some students who turned violent and damaged property protesting over lack of food at the university mess on January 23.

Following the incident, the police booked cases against 28 students under Sections 148, 342, 352, 353, 448 and 427 read with 149 of the Indian Penal Code.

Prof. Rao said the date of reopening hostels and messes would be announced after consulting the officials.

The university administration would take a positive approach towards the demand of students towards withdrawing cases against the protestors.

All semester examinations that were cancelled would be rescheduled.

The leaders representing about ten student unions promised to ensure peaceful atmosphere on the campus and prevent recurrence of such violent incidents in future.

KU Campus College Principal Prof. N. Ramaswamy, vice-principal K. Damodar Rao, and representatives of employee unions were present.
