Tourism at the picturesque Kadem project in Adilabad district needs some more development if its full potential is to be realised.

This is the opinion of the staff of the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation manning the cottages, restaurant and the boating facility in the reservoir.

According to them, the occupancy rate of cottages in just about 40 per cent though the accommodation is full on weekends and holidays. There are about 250 visitors taking a boat ride on weekends and holidays while only about 100 to 150 of them come to the jetty on working days. C. Madhukar Reddy, a civil engineer from Adilabad opines that the Tourism Department needs to open restaurants on the two islands in the reservoir. “Visitors will love to visit the islands if there is some facility to chill out,” he says.

The opening of restaurants in the islands will also increase the number of visitors taking boat rides. There will be need for more boats to handle the increased traffic.

At present there is one boat with a capacity of 18 persons and a speed boat with a capacity of four operating it in Kadem. The charge per adult and child for a boat ride is Rs.30 and Rs.20 respectively while the charge for a ride in the speed boat is Rs.250.

“There is also a need for the government to publicise the facility. The publicity should include linkage to nature tourism at Kawal Tiger Reserve,” a staffer suggests.
