The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) of Medak district has initiated a safe water mission. The initiation was the result of a visit to a hostel located in the district headquarters by JJB Principal Magistrate D. Durga Prasad.
During his visit, Justice Durga Prasad identified that most of the hostels for girls lack safe drinking water facility, in turn leading to many health problems.
“During the legal awareness camps, it was identified that maximum dropouts are due to usage of unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation. About 80 per cent of the children are affected with sickness and diseases,” Justice Durga Prasad told The Hindu .
The JJB has taken up this mission and started a programme where RO+UV water purifiers are installed at Government Girls Hostels in and around Sangareddy town in association with practicing advocates of Sangareddy and Bar Association.
“The main objective of this programme is to provide healthy and pure water to the children for better health , and in turn churn out bright citizen of this country,” he added.
Advocates Abdul Rubb, Bhupal Reddy and Dhanraj donated seven water purifiers, which were already installed at various hostels of Sangareddy town. Justice M. Kanka Durga, Justice Venkat Ram, Justice Mahesh Nath inaugurated all the water filter units in the hostels.
Justice Durga Prasad said that that this ‘Safe Drinking Water Mission’ will be extended to the other government hostels of the district with the help of donors.
