Hundreds of people accorded a warm welcome to YSR Congress leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy here on Monday, when he visited Hanamkonda to console the parents of Bheemreddy Sudheer Reddy who died last month in a road accident.

Mr. Jagan went to the residence of the deceased leader at Reddy Colony in Hanamkonda and spent over 30 minutes with Aruna Devi and Yella Reddy, parents of late Sudheer Reddy.

The YSRC leader kept his tour low profile asking his party men not to put up any flexi boards and banners as this tour was intended for a different purpose. He asked them not to mobilise people as well. However, on learning that Mr. Jagan was arriving in Hanamkonda, hundreds of youths accompanied him from Jangaon and more joined en route.

At Reddy Colony, people gathered in large numbers to have a glimpse of Mr. Jagan. Young and old perched on roof tops to wave at him. As he alighted from the vehicle, they cheered in jubilation. When he responded by wishing them with folded hands, their joy knew no bounds.

Mr. Jagan reportedly told late Sudheer Reddy’s parents that it was a great loss to him personally and to the party. He asked them to see their son in him and promised to stand by them at all times. This is his first visit after the Mahabubabad incident that took place on May 28, 2010 when he was arrested in Nalgonda, preventing him from proceeding to Mahabubabad when the separate Telangana movement was at its peak. He came in April for a road show during the campaign for general elections.

During the Parkal by-election and recent general elections, Ms. Sharmila campaigned for the party in the region.
