The district police busted the notorious inter-State gang of robbers and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 24 lakh.
DIG B. Malla Reddy said that they arrested Erdar Pawar of Bhigoli village of Madhya Pradesh. He along with 25 others has been touring southern States for quite some time breaking into houses and resorting to all sorts of violent activities.
The inter-State gang was known as ‘Bhil gang’ or ‘Pawar gang’. The accused, Pawar, with his six associates broke into the APSP quarters at Mamnoor on March 23 and looted several houses.
On January 4, the same gang broke into a house near Naidu petrol pump and decamped with gold worth Rs. 13 lakh. “They cut the fence to enter the APSP compound and broke the locks of several houses. They stole gold worth Rs. 14 lakh from the quarters,” Mr. Malla Reddy said.
The Pawar gang was involved in 17 offences in Khammam and Warangal districts and 30 offences in Andhra Pradesh. The police had a tough time tracking them as they used to kill anyone who confronted them, even the police. They came to know that the main accused, Pawar, was passing through Warangal to dispose of the stolen gold. They laid a trap and arrested him at Warangal railway station.
