An Intermediate first year student of a corporate college allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room here in the early hours of Saturday.

Consumes poison

Police identified the deceased as Badavath Veeranna of Nalgonda district. Sources said that Veeranna allegedly consumed some poisonous substance in his hostel room. He was rushed to a hospital in the town where he died while undergoing treatment a little later.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was depressed over his inability to grasp subjects with English as the medium of instruction, police sources said.

Demonstration

Meanwhile, activists of various student unions staged a protest demonstration in front of the college here demanding a detailed inquiry into the incident. Some irate student activists allegedly barged into the college premises and damaged the college furniture. Police swung into action and brought the situation under control by detaining several protesters.
