Anita Ratnam says she has drawn inspiration from The Mother written by Sri Aurobindo in the 1928 for her dance productions.

The monograph was given to her about 20 years ago.

“Since then, all my works have been about the divine feminine - Lakshmi, Ambal or Andal. I felt that it would be nice to bring dancers together to explore new ways of expression and create a modern language and vocabulary of dance, said Ms. Ratnam.

On Padme’s adoption of the lotus as metaphor for an expression of life, Ms. Ratnam said, “I think the lotus stands for many facets of life. Life is not beauty and harmony all the time… that we have rhythm and disharmony makes life. In that sense, it is a dance about life.”
