In a bizarre incident, a five-month-old infant, her parents and another person sustained injuries when the roof of a dilapidated government hospital building, where they were staying, caved in on Saturday morning.
Venugopal and Mamatha, parents of the infant and hailing from Tatigutta village of Shankarpatnam mandal, had come to the hospital in the town two days ago for treatment of the infant who was suffering from viral fever.
The hospital staff admitted the girl to the ward and the parents were also staying there. On Saturday morning when the parents and the infant were fast asleep, the roof measuring around two metres long collapsed on them, causing serious bleeding injuries to them. Another person, who was also sleeping in the ward, sustained injuries. Other inmates and the hospital staff woke up to the shocking sound caused by the sudden collapse of the roof.
The hospital staff provided medical assistance to the injured persons. They allocated them another bed in the same ward. Zilla Parishad chairperson Tula Uma visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured persons.
