Scores of beneficiaries of Indiramma housing scheme from different corners of the district staged a protest under the aegis of the CPI (ML-New Democracy) district committee here on Monday demanding immediate release of pending bills for Indiramma houses

The protesters made an attempt to barge into the Collectorate to represent their grievances to the authorities concerned, but in vain. The police stopped them at the entrance of the Collectorate. The agitators staged a demonstration at the dharna chowk to press for their long pending demand.

Addressing the protesters, the CPI (ML-ND) district secretariat member Gokinapally Venkateswara Rao said that more than 2.69 lakh houses were sanctioned to the district under three phases of Indiramma housing scheme during the previous Congress regime in the past.

A total of 2,15,109 houses have been completed under the scheme across the district so far, he said, adding that over 46,026 houses were lying incomplete under different stages of construction.

Mr. Rao said the inquiry ordered by the TRS government into the implementation of Indiramma housing scheme after taking over the reins of the new Telangana State has established that around 41,000 beneficiaries were genuine.

Thousands of beneficiaries have been running from pillar to post seeking release of the pending bills worth Rs. 342 crore, he alleged.
