The Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) in the agency area mandals will be given Rs. 50 as incentive for bringing patients to nearest primary health centres. As per the latest effort of the Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) to check spread of seasonal diseases like malaria and diarrhoea, the ASHA workers will also be equipped with kits to determine malaria positives among people within their jurisdiction.
At a meeting of ASHA workers from the five PHCs of Utnoor and Indervelli tribal mandals, ITDA Project Officer R.V. Karnan said that the role of these ASHA workers was important in disease control. He said that the workers should create awareness on maintenance of sanitation in villages so that disease control could be achieved.
Mr. Karnan also asked the ASHA workers to create awareness among tribals so as to deter them from taking recourse to local herbal medicines or following superstitions in trying to cure their ailments. He said that the ASHA workers should also help patients approach the nearest PHC for curing the disease.
